Shop Dropping

40myrtle01.jpg

I'm sure many of you have heard of shop dropping (Hell, Scaramouch may have posted about it already) Renegade public art where artists "deposit" something in a store instead of "lifting" it. The Mussolini action figure was an example of this. Anyway it's made CNN already, and AdJab thinks that advertisers will soon start using the tactic.

How long before YesBut Creamed Corn and Evil Rich's Refried Beans hit the shelves?

4) Know someone going on a trip? These passport covers make a cool gift.
3) Have your morning coffee on the porch with a weird little friend.
2) Got a pool? Want to put a bar in the middle of it?
1) And finally...I have died and gone to couch potato heaven - the Sun TV.

The Tardy

TheTardy.jpg

Bernard Goldberg has written a book called 100 People who are Screwing up America. check out the top 10:

10. Ralph Neas, president of People for the American Way
9. Jonathan Kozol, education scholar and author
8. Paul Krugman, columnist at The New York Times
7. Margaret Marshall, chief justice, Massachusetts state Supreme Court
6. Jimmy Carter, former Democratic president
5. Anthony Romero, American Civil Liberties Union's executive director
4. Jesse Jackson, Democratic African-American activist
3. Ted Kennedy, Democratic U.S. senator, Massachusetts
2. Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times
1. Michael Moore, filmmaker

Two fun facts...Bernard says these are the people who, among other things "have made America a nastier place than it ought to be". Interestingly enough, here is an interview Bernard gave to the National Review. Within the article, you will notice Bernard tells the interviewer he would like to strangle him.

Within the same interview, he mentions Michael Moore is number one on his list partly because of statements he's made like "Americans are possibly the dumbest people on the planet". Dig deeper on Bernard's hit list and you'll find Matt Kunitz, the creator of Fear Factor. So much irony, so little time to report on it.

Dirty Jobs

dirtyjobs.jpg

Roadkill collector, septic tank cleaner, cheese inspector, pig wrangler. They're dirty jobs, but someone has to do them.

Don't know why, but I haven't been this excited about a new show since Celebrity Fit Club.

My Free Implants

breastsweb.jpg

This is too funny. MyFreeImplants.com is a community site that brings together women desperate for new cans and the pathetic slobs willing to pay for them, obviously hoping it will lead to hooking up with a chick with big cans.
Chivalry...dead? I think not.

Golden Numbers

speakersweb.jpg

Today in WMMNA, a story about a very cool public art project in Seoul, South Korea.

Golden Numbers takes 32 of the actual speakers used in the Korean demilitarized zone to broadcast propoganda (Hard to believe they were removed as recently as 2004). Recordings of numbers, old radio broadcasts and other sounds are mixed in with voices of people on the scene and are all played together in the piece, representing how all people have a role in history in some way.

The red figure in the middle, titled Red Symbol, is Pope John Paul II. I'm guessing this has to do with His role in the fall of the Soviet Union. It would be great to see this in person. maybe it will make it's way to the US at some point.

Weekend Guide

clydeweb.jpg

- PS1's Warm-Up has been going strong for four weeks now. No better way to spend a Saturday.
- Street artist SWOON is trying to take them back one block at a time. You can see her paper and wood cutouts at Deitch Projects until August 13th
- Earth artist Robert Smithson is at the Whitney. It's his first American museum retrospective, as displaying mountainous piles of rocks can sometimes be challeging.
- And finally, Calling all Knick fans...Walt Frazier will be at Alife tomorrow to promote his new Clyde Puma sneaker. Gotta support Clyde. The sneaker's pretty cool, too.

Where Are They Now - The Bad News Bears

badnewsbears.jpg

I'm sure everyone knows Billy Bob's remake of the Bad News Bears comes out this weekend, and it actually looks pretty good. Thorton busts out his Bad Santa character and beans a bunch of little punks in the head...what's not to like?

Thing is, I was watching the original for about the 200th time last Sunday (which is freaking great) and I was wondering where everyone is today, so I did a little digging...

Target Vertical Fashion Show

targetshow.jpg

If you stop by Rockefeller Center next Wednesday, you'll see various well dressed men and women walking down the side of a building. I thought I had seen this before, but it took me a while to remember. Marshall Fields did it a couple years ago when I lived in Chicago.

Dumb then...dumb now.

The Tardy...for the most retarded statement of the week

TheTardy.jpg

RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman speaking on the Democratic response to the Karl Rove allegations:

"It's disappointing that once again, so many Democrat leaders are taking their political cues from the far-left, Moveon wing of the party. The bottom line is Karl Rove was discouraging a reporter from writing a false story based on a false premise and the Democrats are engaging in blatant partisan political attacks."

Mr. Melhman stood by his words this morning on Meet The Press. He said this right after Time reporter Matt Cooper told Tim Russert, point-blank, he learned Valerie Plame was in the CIA from Karl Rove.
